Default R/E Build?

So can anyone give me good examples of these? The conjure flame, frost, lightning seem like really good choices along with Mark of Rodgort (sp?).

What are some other good ele spells to combine with a ranger?

Also: Are the black bears in pre-searing Ascalon charmeable? Please tell me they are, I want a bear pet as soon as possible! =D

I'm thinking I'd have three different bows with the different element bowstrings and just take whichever one depending on the situation. ((Shiverpeaks, ice golems, etc. I would bring my fire bow and conjure flame + mark of rodgort)

What should my attributes be?

Any help/advice would be appreciated =)

Mark of Rodgort is bad on a Ranger... use Burning Arrow if you need burning.

Conjure + Kindle is alright but you'll need Prep Shot or something to manage energy since it hogs up a lot of attributes.

Which is more beneficial to the group? Burning or spike damage?

Also, can someone answer my question as to whether or not black bears pre-searing can be charmed?

Thanks for all the advice so far. =)

It's difficult, the wiki has an article on the [wiki]Black Bear[/wiki] which includes some note on charming it.

Yeah it seems pretty difficult. Is it worth it?

Kindle Arrows + Conjure Flame
Glass Arrows + Conjure Lightning

I'd just stick with Conjure spells from ele instead of spells. Rangers really don't need much else from ele.

Only worth it for RP purposes, Black bears have a slightly lower attack rate, on average, then other pets. If it's for utility, no, I don't think it's worth it.

I see. What is a good pet for damage then? Wolf?

Conjure + Kindle + Dual + Punishing used to be a pretty good spike, cuts down someone health in half in less then a second

I'm also very interested in a good R/E build. I started thinking of making an Earth Ele Tank build w/ Serpent's Quickness and its working ok... not nearly as good as a real Ele...

Anyone have any luck with the below build for just general PvE? Seems like it would be good w/ the Ranger's base of 100 armor vs elemental

I know in Pre you don't have the skill yet, but one of my Favorites is using Barrage + poison tip sig with a Vamp bow, only the primary target gets poisoned, but the vamp works on all targets. So I do and extra 5pt dmg to each target and gain up to +30hp (depending on how many I hit). sometimes I run ele or rit 2nd and add some extra damage to the shot with a conjure or brutal weapon.

Yeah I'll probably do something along the lines of Kindle, Conjure Fire, and flame based damage, but if I'll have frost bows and lightning bows for situational purposes like if I'm in a mission fighting fire-based mobs.

I guess my next best bet as far as effective pets go is the wolf. My girlfriend and I mostly play together, but we'll have to get into groups for missions so even if we enjoy RPing a bit I still want my pet to be effective.

Any other suggestions as far as pets go?

I'm thinking put some in Beast Mastery, some in Expertise, and some in Marksmanship.

Any advice in regards to attributes?

Those three attributes sound fine for a Beastmaster, 11+1+1 expertise should allow you to use 5E skills efficiently, many petskills are just that, otherwise, use 11+2+1. I could suggest majors on all three, but I would probably get lynched, that leaves 10+1 for BM and MMS.

Pretty much the same as any other.
"Although pets have various appearances, pets (other than the Black Bear) of the same level are all functionally identical, with the exception of damage types. The Black Bear uses the skill Brutal Mauling, the slow activation of this skill reducing its rate of attack. Pets have a maximum level of 20." From http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pet

Speaking of an R/E build, what do people think about a barrage build with a fiery bow, Conjure Flame and Mark of Rodgort? You could cast Conjure Flame first (since it lasts 60 seconds), cast Mark of Rodgort on a bunched group of enemies and then Barrage them. With 12 Fire Magic and 12 Marksmanship, each arrow would be doing between 90 and 95 damage (50-55 Fire Damage + 3 sec of Burning)

Should work well against cold-based enemies in the Shiverpeaks

Barrage is a subpar skill by itself unless its used with Splinter Weapon. The problem with what you suggested is that the CF + MoR don't do nearly as much damage as Splinter, it takes 3 slots instead of 2, and leaves you with lower expertise (in this case you have none).

If you want to run R/E, just stick with the spike builds instead of AoE.
